Roversfc.sc caught up with 28-year old defender, Christopher Rousseau, to talk about how he spent his off season, his favourite match last year and what the team has planned for Championship 1.
Christopher has been with Rovers since it formed in 2018 and his 28 appearances for the club have been instrumental in helping achieve success last term.
Last season ended with a league trophy and promotion so after a lot of hard work how did you spend your time in the off season?
The winning season really took a lot of energy and commitment towards the team, so the best part of the off season was having some extra time to spend with family and friends.
What was the key to Rovers success last year?
I believe that the unity and belief that was born into the team after the first couple of games was our most important element. There came a time when we realised that we were individually good enough to do it and from there we all worked as one to achieve that. The team always demanded more from us and at a certain point we were mentally ready for whatever challenge came our way.
What was your favourite match last season and why?
For me it has to be the 4-1 win over Bel Air, our biggest rivals. A team that we had not beaten in our three previous encounters and they stood between us and the title.
You’ve been with the club ever since Rovers was created in 2018, how has the club changed since then?
The team started off as a group of friends playing for fun on Tuesdays and Thursday to having its own academy and training four times a week this season. It’s definitely come a long way in terms of structure and player development. We’ve also made great additions to the squad along the way. The Rovers project has been an exciting journey of forward transformation up until now.
How are you preparing for a new challenge in Championship 1?
It’s preseason now, so the training is very demanding as we all try to build our fitness for the upcoming season but also importantly, the team has made additions to the squad and coaching staff who will all have a positive contribution for us this season and beyond.
How far can this Rovers team go?
At the moment the team is filled with positive energy and the belief that we can achieve great things this season. I personally believe that if we keep that energy and commitment throughout the season, we will see ourselves climb to the Premier League and even grab some silverware along the way.
