Rovers a young club with big dreams

“We are swimming in waters well outside of our level but why not!”

Kosta Todorovic, Chairman of Rovers FC

A statement by Kosta Todorovic, Chairman of Rovers FC as he looks back at his team’s achievement of reaching the SFF Cup semi-final. He discussed with SUNDAY lig, the fate of his beloved club and the big dream it has for the future.

The Club’s name Rovers would certainly bring memories of football in Seychelles in the 80’s. However, the Rovers we know today are only two years old but already making a name in the history books.

Though it has already conquered the Championship 2 league title and secured promotion, Rovers still have unfinished business this season. It is still standing in the race for the SFF Cup; rubbing shoulders against top-flight clubs namely Cote d’Or FC, La Passe FC, and Foresters FC in the semi-finals. A win is what it is hoping for to reach the final and add on to the legacy.

Kosta said: “Not only did we achieve promotion to the Second Division, but we also made history by being the first 3rd division club ever to reach the semi-final of the SFF Cup. We are very proud of this”.

“It feels like it’s been a very long season, like we have been working for promotion for many years, when actually our club has only been formed two years ago. Over these two years we have put in a lot of hard work, a lot of dedication and have always remained focused on our goal of promotion. The cup run this season has been a welcome bonus for all of us”.

The Big Dream

Rovers are now preparing for their very important semi-final match which will be held at Amitie, Praslin. Kosta had this to say about the future:

“It was always our target to get out of the 3rd division; we always felt our level was above it but it was on us to show it. We needed to show consistency throughout the whole season and we did just that. Finishing the league season with only one draw and one loss.

“Our first season before this one was a series of ups and downs like for any other first time club. It’s fair to say that we showed our inexperience on the field, in our coaching and at the boardroom level. But we were all determined to keep learning and to keep improving and that hard work has paid off this season.”

For the upcoming semi-final we play with no pressure and we have nothing to lose. We are already further than anyone expected us to be in the cup, so we go there, give it our best shot, enjoy ourselves, and see where it takes us. In football everything is possible”.

“The aim for our club is to keep learning, keep improving and to reach the very top of Seychelles football”, he concluded.
