Remy De ketelaere Championship 2 trophy

Interview with Remy De ketelaere

Roversfc.sc caught up with our centre back Remy De ketelaere during the off-season break to talk about last year’s achievements, how he’s keeping busy without football and what the aims are for next season.

What have you been doing in your free time during the off season?

Mainly keeping fit, exercising at home. Weights and body weight exercises, running and playing some football with friends. I’m focusing on keeping my fitness at a decent level to be ready to restart training normally.

Looking back at last season how do you rate your achievements as a team?

Overall our team was very good. We were very well organised defensively, midfield put in a lot of hard work, and our attackers were very dangerous! I believe we have even more to offer and we will try and show that next season.

What do you think was the key part of your team’s success last year?

Defence. As a defender I felt our back line was fighting in every way. Communication, rotation, coverage, runs, clean tackles, strong in the air, and playing with confidence.

You played as centre back last season which is a new position for you. How has that transition been?

I didn’t find the transition that difficult. It was something the coach asked me to do for the team and I gave it my best and I think I had a great season. In the future I would like to get more opportunities higher up the field as I think I could make the difference there too. But I will play wherever the coach puts me or the team needs me.

You have played second division football before with Glacis. What do you think is the main difference between third and second division?

Second division is a level above, it’s more open and the player’s experience is a bit higher from where we came from. We will need to train harder, make sure to keep the team together, keep our fighting spirit and I’m sure we can come out with good results.

What will be your team’s target for next year in the second division?

We’re new in that division so teams may underestimate us and try beating us by large goal margins. But for me we have a great team and we have shown it by reaching the semi-finals of the SFF Cup. We definitely have what it takes to finish in the top half of the table.

And your personal target?

My personal target is continue to aim higher, train harder and achieve great results.

Do you think Rovers can have another successful cup campaign next season?

Definitely! We had such a great year. We had some unexpected wins and upsets. If we continue with the same mindset as a team, as a family, then nothing is impossible. Why not go for the double next year!
